Excavator Bucket Hydraulic Testing

40 week
128 month

This week I researched the bucket hydraulic system on the John Deer excavator we had on loan from Birch equipment. First I weighed the bucket with a counter weight that weighed 195 lbs and raised it with the blade all the way down to lift it off the ground and get the system up to temperature. Next I lowered the cylinder to 2" and shut it down for five minutes. After five minutes I re-measured the cylinder and it had a 1/8" sag that was up to specs in the manual. Then I re-raised the cylinder to 2" and waited five more minutes after it was shut down and again there was 1/8th inch lag ..All in all the bucket is up to specs.

Hydraulics and mini excavator

8 WEEK
8 MONTH

This week I learned how to use the Parker fitting board .Its one of these things I don't really get but i know I will with practice.Last week I practiced using the mini excavator I've used them before i think they are a good tool to have and to know how to work on these days.i picked the bucket to look into the workings of I think I will learn a bunch this next week that I will find useful.

This week we finished the charging system test I learned one on one how to do a correct load test from my very smart teacher. We learned how to use Parker fitting finder to find hydraulic fitting part numbers. This week at work I changed a radiator on a older case tractor I learned preventative maintenance is the only way to operate when you have a ton of money into equipment.

Summers over

This summer i learned a bunch.I learned all shops are different ans all bosses are different.I learned there's the right way and the wrong way to do something. I found a real liking to farm machinery and implements.I think I will pursue a job in that line of work once i graduate. This week we have been doing all motor boards and I really think its the hardest park of engines is the electronics.I think i will learn a bunch from it.We also are working on starting systems.

This week I learned how to properly service a trailer including brakes, grease all the zerk fittings, check air pressure, and changed a couple inside tires on the trailer.I also replaced the reflective tape on the side and cleaned the inside . On the farm i had to drive the big deer and pulled the round baler I made hay bales for about 20 hours this week and when i was done i had to service the baler including all grease fittings, change the plastic roll and even changed a hydraulic line.

Scan tool usage 2 with hours

40 week
120 month

This week i worked on the farm doing field work. I got to work on the navigation system with the boss and learned how to use it its a good tool on these big John Deer tractors. I performed a cylinder balance test on the yellow International box truck using the laptop using Service Maxx Pro .

I also used the Cummins Insight program on the laptop to diagnose the Cummins ISX in the dyno room. I found the code 2636 was red active which is the VGT actuator driver circuit.I traced it back from the turbo and found the plug was not plugged in all the way.

Scan tool usage 1 with hours

40 week
80 month

I used the Modis from Snap-On to do a system activation including making the horn and wipers work. I used the same machine to get into the system on my Mercedes and figure out why its throwing the engine code. Figured out my car is throwing the air injection code and I am going to try and fix it. Also diagnosed the test 6.7ltr ford engine with the IDS (integrated diagnostic software) on the laptop. found the code p0090 and discovered the high pressure fuel regulator plug was unplugged. Also used the vacuum machine and evacuated the oil out of my engine and changed the oil and filter.

John Deer Work with hours

40 week
40 month

This week I spent many hours working on a John Deer tractor and the disc attachment used to disc the field. I assisted in taking off the wheel working on the hub assembly and repairing the radiator and had to fabricate some steel on a disc trailer that broke while i was working on field. Also I participated in the class tug o war that we won first place in and received a trophy a sprained ankle and a wicked bruise on my side..I learned how the radiator is a big part in these tractors in a dusty field and has to work good always or there can be major problems. I learned how to take a tractor tire off that is taller than me with a crane hoist. We also learned in class how injectors work and got to trouble shoot the new engine in class with a computer. Also I used a computer to diagnose the problems on my own car.All in all a good week Also a pic of the silag truck i drive and do the maintenance on. There's even a pic of the navigation system.
