Dec 2013 Commercial Carrier Journal

December 2013 CCJ has a interesting article about video based DRM (driver risk management) system. Its a forward looking and cab facing video system. It continuously records vehicle date ,audio ,and video. It records sudden lane changes acceleration or deceleration and rolling through a stop sign. The data is uploaded daily from the truck to a cloud like device that stores all of the data and its reviewed by the next day and given a score. Its going to stop the careless activities like talking or texting or just not paying attention which in turn will cut down insurance on these larger trucking companies. On the average a fatality costs a company around 7 million. I'm a firm believer that this will make people and truckers safer on the road.

I definitely learned that safety is paramount in any transportation business. I am a firm believer if you make drivers think that they are being watched at all times by big brother than they will  be driving safer by obeying all the laws of the rd,especially if they know they cant get away with anything.

  1. 7 million. I hope you all never wonder why I'm so adamant about safety. I don't want anyone hurt on my watch, but even more important you all will carry the safety message to your peers long after I am gone.

    Stop. Think. Work safe.
